Welcome to the category of Super Samurai Sudoku puzzles, a fun version of sudoku with a distinctive grid design.
The goal of the puzzle is to place the numbers 1-9 once in each row, column and box 3x3 - this includes four gray rectangles.
Solve puzzles in the same way as regular sudoku puzzles, but with one additional thought: the key to solving most puzzles is to use the four additional areas of the gray rectangle that appear in the puzzle and apply the usual sudoku rules in those regions.
There are also several other names in Hypersudoku puzzles: they include Windoku, because it looks like there are four windows in the puzzle grid, as well as additional sudoku regions: the last one, because, Well, it's Sudoku, but with four additional regions in it.
Like many additional regions, sudoku variants such as sudoku X, the key to solving puzzles is to remember to pay attention to additional regions. Windoku has 31 regions instead of 27, and the new four are marked with gray rectangles that you see in the grid: since they should also contain only 1-9 times, you will usually find that in sudoku the grid is less than the set numbers. This is due to the fact that more information can be obtained from these regions than with conventional sudoka in terms of how it limits the options of squares, which means that less information is required in the starting position.
Each hypersudoku can be solved logically, so if you're ever stuck, look closely at your pencil marks, especially for gray areas, as here people often forget to see something or miss something because they are less familiar looking at these regions than they are with the standard 27 regions.
